Meet the Staff
GARY JERKINS
Dr. Jerkins is a native of Nashville. He completed his undergraduate work at David Lipscomb University followed by medical school at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. After an internship at Methodist Hospital, Dr. Jerkins completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Department of Ophthalmology in Memphis. Dr. Jerkins’ comprehensive ophthalmology practice began in 1982, focusing on cataract surgery and contact lens care. He also serves as a Principle Investigator for a variety of FDA-approved clinical trials. His career includes numerous leadership roles and appointments within the ophthalmology community. Since 1996 his recurring trips to Ukraine have allowed him to share his faith through medical and humanitarian efforts. In 2010 Dr. Jerkins founded SeaStarKids, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that sponsors a summer Bible camp, monthly outings and university scholarships to underprivileged Ukrainian young people.
MEGAN MEDLIN
Megan graduated from the University of Memphis in 2008 with a Bachelor’s in Business. In 2011, she moved to Nashville, TN, and shortly after, she entered the Ophthalmic Technology program at Volunteer State Community College. After graduating from the Ophthalmic Technology program in 2014, she became a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and started working in clinical research studies.
When Megan is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and dog. Her favorite hobbies include hiking and camping!
CONNIE GARRETT
Connie Garrett is a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, who has 15 years of eye care experience. She is a knowledgeable technician and a proficient scribe. Connie is a current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant who enjoys taking excellent care of her patients. She finds clinical research particularly interesting because she loves to see new therapies for eye disease benefit patients who need it.
Outside of work, Connie’s favorite thing to do is spend time with her three beautiful daughters.
